Attention All Gamers! Wal-Mart Has a New Trade-In Program

photo c/o Jeepersmedia

The word on the (stockmarket) street is that Wal-Mart is currently out to run GameStop out of business. The new trade-in program they are initiating will take a big bite out of GameStop’s major business play. Already, GameStop’s shares are approximately 6% down in trading.

Wal-Mart announced the official start of the program will be March 26, and every PlayStation, Xbox, or any other pre-owned video game trade-in will be exchanged for gift cards which can be used at any Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club purchase (online or in stores). It is currently only said to be participating in stores across the U.S., but will be become available to Canadians soon.

Wal-Mart just celebrated their 20 years in Canada. The first one opened March 17, 1994.

{ Spotlight } “Afterlight” App

afterlight

This has got to be my absolute favourite photo-editing app. They provide tons of amazing filters and frames that a professional photographer or novice would enjoy.

screen568x568 (2)

They also provide a square crop feature which is nice (especially for Instagram users). While also providing little sisters and decor for those who enjoy spicing up their photos a little further. Adjusting exposure, brightness, sharpness, and those type of photograph specifications are made easy with this app.

At the price of $0.99, this is one photo-editing app, you should definitely not pass up. Find it in the App Store here.

{ Spotlight } “Plant Nanny” App

plantnanny

We all know how hard it is for me to drink water. I got scolded by my doctor for only having a single bottle of water a week. Now that I visit the gym frequently, I manage to have about a bottle every other day, but I’m sure you’re all aware that the proper amount to have on average is 8 glasses a day.

screen568x568

Plant Nanny helps its users regulate how much water they drink by providing a cute, interactive, and educational user-interface. Every plant require 8 glasses of water to survive the day, so when you have one, you give your plant one. There are several other options of how to take your water (ie. mug, bottle, etc.) so you can adjust it for accuracy.

At only $1.99, I find this alarming wake-up app a bit pricey, but it’s worth the price if you find yourself always hitting the snooze button. Find it in the App Store here.

{ Spotlight } “Wake N Shake” App

Most people know it’s incredibly hard to wake up in the morning. Sometimes, we don’t even hear our alarm clocks. But what if I said I found something that will change how you wake-up in the morning…

screen568x568 (2)

This alarm app is designed to help users wake up in the morning by not giving the users any easy way of shutting it off other than to shake the phone like crazy. There is no snooze button, and the volume cannot be lowered.

{ Spotlight } “Plants vs. Zombies 2”

plants vs zombie

The sequel to the much loved strategy story continues to keep you on the edge with new offense zombies, and new plants to defend your lawn with. Join Crazy Dave on a travel through time to defeat and defend your home base from zombies in Ancient Egypt, the Wild West, or even in the Pirate Seas.

screen568x568

Lightning Reed, and Bloomerang are only two of the new powerful plants you will need to help defend your lawn. There are new power-ups and plant foods to help assist you in the new dimensions.

The graphics are also way better in the sequel, and the plant/zombie movement (not that it matters to anyone else but me) is much more fluid. You’ll notice you the zombie’s arm swinging much more.

The app is currently free in the App Store, but there’s an additional cost for extra dimensions. Even if you’re only getting one dimension, it’s free, so why not? Get it here.

Update now to iOS 7!

Yes! The time has finally come. We’ve all been waiting for the new iOS since Apple first announced all the exciting features that came with the update. So, to sum things up, if you haven’t already downloaded and installed Apple’s newest operating system, I’m here to tell you why you should!

  1. It’s more visually appealing
If you were a Cocoppa (app) user or you constantly found yourself oogling at your friends’ smartphones because of its minimalist-chic interface then looking back at yours (with the old iOS) and thinking how generic it is. Then you’ll definitely love the new skeuomorphic aesthetic of iOS 7.
  2. New control center makes it easier to use common features
Swipe up to open the new control center where you can adjust common feature like brightness or airplane mode. You can also find a new built-in flashlight there which (like flashlight apps) uses the phone’s flash.
  3. Improved App Store
If you used to get annoyed seeing the notification whenever you needed to update your apps, then you better update to the new iOS… the new app store gives users the option of turning on automatic updates (hurray!) The new App Store changes the way they organize apps creating a more specified search – you may not find this important, but it’s great for parents who want to make sure apps are age-appropriate for children using iPads, the iPod Touch, etc.
  4. Improved multitasking
Yes, they had it in the past but in iOS 7, switching from app to app has become almost seamless. Also, to close apps, you no longer need to click on the little red ‘x’ but instead swipe up – for more than one app, use more than one finger.
  5. Siri can now be a guy!
Not much else to say about that one.
  6. It’s free, so why not?

That being said, yes, I did update to iOS 7 as soon as I could. & Do I love it? Well… yes, but all new toys are fun in the beginning.

FYI | This update is only compatible with:

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5C
  • iPhone 5S
  • iPod Touch (5th gen)
  • iPad 2 (w&w/o retina display)
  • iPad Mini
